Group Trips at HCM Minimize

Come to HCM this summer for a fun-filled, educational experience!

Exhibits: HCM exhibits are interactive and geared for children ages 2-12.  Exhibits include Science, Art, Theater, Construction, Games, Farmers Market, Farm (for preschoolers), and Climbing Wall.

Chaperones:   Chaperones must be positioned throughout the museum to supervise activity and help support the HCM rules (see below).  There is no charge for adult chaperones.

Nametags:  Please provide nametags for your students and chaperones.  This is very helpful in identifying children belonging to your group.

Location/Parking:   HCM is located at 30 North Main Street in Harrisonburg on Court Square, across from the Court House, between the Daily Grind and the WHSV-TV3 studio.  If coming by bus, please pull up to the curb in front of HCM and turn on the bus flashers.  An adult should come and check in with an HCM staff member before unloading the children.  Bus parking is not readily available around Court Square.  We suggest parking in the Roses parking lot along Mason Street during the trip.  After unloading, drive north on Main Street to the 4th stoplight (Gay Street) and turn right.  Roses will be up about a block on the left.  If you are coming in vans or cars, you may park in the parking garage on Elizabeth Street.  Drive past HCM to the light and turn right on Elizabeth Street.  The parking garage will be on the left.

Belongings:  If possible, children should leave their coats and belongings on the bus or in cars.

HCM Store:   Children are invited to bring money to spend at the HCM store.  There are many small, educational toys for $.25-$5.00.  HCM T-Shirts are $10 each.  Souvenir cups filled with prizes are available for purchase at $4.50 each.  However, by pre-ordering for your group and paying with your admission cost, the price is $4.00.  See Option 2 on the registration form for details.

Rules:  When the children arrive, an HCM staff member will go over the
following rules:
1. Walk when in the museum.
2. Use inside voices.
3. Clean up after yourself.  HCM is a place for hands-on exploration; however, it is important the children are responsible to put things away when they are done using them.  About 5-10 minutes before your scheduled departure, we will flick the lights to signal the time to clean up and make last-minute bathroom stops before lining up at the door.
4.  Our Down on the Farm exhibit is for preschoolers and kindergarteners only.
